Lorex User-Generated Content (UGC) Policy

At Lorex, we love seeing how our customers use our products in the real world — whether it’s a review, an installation photo, or a video of your setup. Sometimes, we may ask for your permission to share this content (“User-Generated Content” or “UGC”) so others can learn from your experience.

This policy explains how we ask for, use, and protect your UGC when you give us permission through Yotpo, our trusted review and content management partner.

1.0 WHAT COUNTS AS “USER-GENERATED CONTENT”

User-Generated Content (UGC) refers to any media or information voluntarily submitted by you that features or discusses Lorex products or experiences. This includes, but isn’t limited to:

To protect your privacy and comply with the law, Lorex will not request or use UGC that includes:

  • Product reviews, star ratings or testimonials
  • Photos or videos shared on social media, contests or via review forms (e.g., tagging us or using hashtags like #Lorex or #MyLorex)
  • Testimonials or feedback sent through emails, surveys, or support channels
  • Any content you submit through Lorex campaigns, sweepstakes, or promotional offers

 

2.0 CONTENT WE DO NOT REQUEST PERMISSION FOR

To protect your privacy and comply with the law, Lorex will not request or use UGC that includes:

  • Minors (under 18) without verified parental/guardian consent
  • Other individuals who have not agreed to appear in marketing materials
  • Private or sensitive details such as home addresses, license plates, or personal identifiers
  • Content violating platform rules or community guidelines
  • Unsafe product use or illegal activities

If we see content like this, we will not use it.

 

3.0 HOW WE OBTAIN CONSENT FOR YOUR UGC

Sharing your UGC with Lorex is always voluntary. Here’s how it works:

  • We will contact you through Yotpo (e.g., by comment, direct message, or consent checkbox) to ask for permission.
  • You’ll have 14 days to respond to our request. If no response is received, your content will not be used.
  • If you say yes, your content is moved to our “Approved” list. If you decline or don’t respond, it is marked as “Rejected.” Pending requests remain visible to you.
  • We keep a record of your response as proof of consent and to meet compliance requirements.

This way, you’re always in control, and nothing happens without your clear agreement.

 

4.0 RIGHTS YOU GIVE US (IF YOU CONSENT)

When you give Lorex your consent (to use your UGC), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use your UGC in marketing materials. That could include:

  • Lorex product pages and websites
  • Social media posts (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Newsletters, ads, and promotional campaigns
  • Demos, displays, and training

You still own your content. Lorex is not claiming ownership, and we will never sell your UGC.

 

5.0 KEEPING YOUR CONTENT AND PRIVACY SAFE

We take privacy seriously. That means:

  • UGC is stored securely, with access limited to authorized Lorex staff
  • We take additional steps to protect privacy when handling user-generated content (UGC). As part of our process, we screen submitted materials and make efforts to detect when individuals are present in the content. Importantly, this is done without using facial recognition technology or creating biometric profiles. Our goal is to identify and remove images or videos featuring individuals to help safeguard privacy.
  • Content featuring sensitive information will not be used without the right safeguards and explicit consent. Please refrain from uploading images and videos featuring minors under the age of 18.
  • Yotpo, acting as our service provider, maintains an audit trail of permissions and follows strict security measures

 

6.0 WITHDRAWING YOUR CONSENT

You can change your mind at any time. If you want us to stop using your UGC:

  • Contact our Privacy Officer (see Section 8) with details of the content and where it was shared
  • We will remove it from future use within a reasonable time
  • Some content (like old social posts, printed brochures, or archived material) may remain, but we will not use it in new campaigns

Special note about children’s content: If UGC features minors and you later withdraw parental/guardian consent, Lorex will prioritize immediate removal wherever possible.

 

7.0 HOW LONG WE KEEP CONTENT

We only keep your UGC as long as necessary for the agreed purpose. If you withdraw your consent, it will be removed promptly. Yotpo also applies retention controls to ensure content is deleted or flagged once it is no longer needed.

9.0 WHAT THIS POLICY DOES NOT COVER

This UGC Policy does not apply to the following types of information:

  • Private security footage recorded by your Lorex camera systems
  • Personal data stored in your Lorex cloud accounts or mobile applications
  • Communications with customer support or warranty services
  • Product reviews submitted directly through Lorex websites

These are covered under our main Privacy Policy and remain private, under your control, and are never used for marketing.

 

10.0 VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION

Joining our social media content program is completely optional. Saying yes or no will never affect:

  • Your product warranties or service agreements
  • Access to customer support services
  • The functionality of your Lorex products
  • Any other aspect of your customer relationship with Lorex
